Overcoming Over-Engineering with High-Performing Tech Teams

Before we partnered with them, AWS Australia faced a critical challenge: their bespoke CMS application was visually impressive but functionally overly complex and over-engineered. They lacked the technical skills they needed to move away from this legacy application but understood that hiring in-house was tedious and problematic. Upon deciding that Worldteam was a good match for their organisation, our expert tech teams then began working to overhaul their bespoke legacy application and build a modern, open-source, well-supported application.

We had the privilege of working closely with Angela, the Chief Marketing Officer at AWS Australia, who shared her experience working alongside Worldteam. Here is her story.

“Before we partnered with Worldteam, our bespoke application was more of a showpiece than a functional asset. It was over-engineered and cumbersome, prioritising flashy design over functionality and ease of use. We were locked into a software agency that built the application years ago and did not utilise open-source options, severely restricting our ability to adapt and evolve. The complexity of managing this bespoke application surpassed the expertise of our in-house IT and marketing teams, who were unprepared to handle the challenges of overseeing such a project with an external vendor. In a short amount of time, Worldteam fully comprehended our requirements and showed a great deal of expertise in solutions engineering.

As the partnership progressed, the benefits became more and more apparent. Worldteam introduced us to an agile methodology that was new to us but perfectly suited to our needs. They have always prioritised transparency and structure, with meticulously planned sprints and meetings with complete agendas. It was easy for our team to grow accustomed to their project management processes, and the agile approach they introduced to us not only kept our delivery on track but also allowed for flexibility and real-time adjustments.

Apart from Worldteam’s transformative Ways of Working, their technical capabilities are next-level. In transitioning from our complex, outdated Content Management System to the new one they built, we witnessed their expertise firsthand. Our new design is absolutely class-leading, and the level of consideration the team has put into our work is remarkable.

Perhaps what I appreciate most is how seamlessly Worldteam integrates with our internal teams—expanding our capabilities without having to hire in-house technical people, which would have eaten up a lot of time and resources. That’s the beauty of working with an outsourced team. A lot of unique challenges presented themselves throughout our partnership, and at every stage our extended team at Worldteam has led us to come up with well-researched solutions. With a ramped up, interdisciplinary tech team alongside us, we feel confident in our continued ability to achieve our goals as a unified business team and organisation.
